"Consensus" Minnesota Vikings 53-Man Roster Projection?

I looked at ten Vikings 53-man roster projections across media from after Preseason Week 2. I'm not sure what I learned from it.

I compiled a bunch of different 53-man Vikings roster projections from people in the media in order to get a sense of how people are interpreting the progress of training camp and the preseason. I hope this doesn’t become a bit for me.

I used roster projections from the Star Tribune, Pioneer Press, Sports Illustrated, Vikings Wire, Skor North, Vikings Territory, AtoZ Sports and various on-air radio broadcasts.

66 different players made these rosters, and 40 of them made 100 percent of the roster projections. A few players, like Kene Nwangwu Jalen Nailor, would have made 100 percent of rosters but different analysts chose to put those players on injured reserve to start the season.

Of note, players who go on injured reserve from the 90-man roster cannot return during the regular season. In order to be designated for return, that player must make the 53-man roster and then be put on IR.

At the very least, this will give us the tools to better understand what value roster projections have going forward. After all, it seems likely that Alex Boone would have made 100 percent of roster projections in 2016.

If that sort of thing happens persistently — “locks” miss on making the roster — maybe we can do a better job adjusting our expectations. If it was a one-off event, then there’s no reason to worry about that level of uncertainty going forward. But otherwise, we might have to raise our bar for what constitutes a “lock.”

Anyway, here’s the result. Thoughts on the results below.

So, what do we think?
