Friday Recap (On a Saturday): Bunnies React! Guest Jamboroo and a Sobering Investigative Report in Gaza
I read stuff that confused me (rabbit conversations), stuff that delighted me (Victoria Zeller's Jamboroo) and stuff that depressed me (war in the Middle East). You should read that stuff, too.
Happy holidays! I hope things went well. The holidays and the new year created some scheduling quirks that pushed everything back about a day, which is why the Friday Recap is on Saturday today.
This week it’s pretty light as far as the number of links go — I didn’t get much reading done while traveling.
I will do my best to isolate when pieces I link are videos, podcasts and/or behind paywalls (marked with a $).
Work I Produced:
My recap of the crazy day Nick Mullens had against the Lions, among other events that occurred that game
The discussion surrounding Lamar Jackson’s ascension to the MVP favorite while Brock Purdy dropped is… astounding. And dumb ($).
Luke Braun’s rabbits had a… Socratic seminar ($)? About Jaren Hall? I’ve lost control of this blog.
Podcast: The most recent Norse Code Podcast features our Least Valuable Podcaster, Justis Mosqueda. He discovers the healing power of dolphin noises.
Podcast/Video: The Minnesota Football Party debates the Jaren Hall decision and how their string of injuries might impact the Green Bay Packers game on Sunday Night.
Work I Liked (Sports):
My friend Victoria wrote in lieu of Drew Magary in this week’s Jamboroo at the Defector
Man, the Packers fanbase is really sick of Joe Barry
How Mayim Bialik lost her role as main Jeopardy! host
Thank you, Pop-Tarts Bowl Mascot
Work I Liked (Non-Sports):
Yet more evidence has come out that disproves social contagion theory when explaining the increased visibility of trans people
Noah Berlatsky makes a compelling case that Joe Biden has not been getting enough credit for his economic record. This has been a poisonous discourse online! Have fun.
The Washington Post ran a definitive investigative piece on how Israel has committed one of the most destructive wars of the modern era on Gaza and have destroyed more buildings in seven weeks than in Aleppo in three years or Mosul and Raqqa in Iraq in one year. Over 20,000 Palestinians have been killed and over 53,000 have been injured – many of whom, aid experts predict, will die as a result of their injuries in the coming years. Israel has dropped some of the largest conventional bombs in the world on hospitals in densely populated Gaza.
Israel will be turning a football stadium into a detention camp
Last week I shared a link from a new Substack, Leftward Bound. They wrote another banger, this time on the history of Liberal Zionism.
As an aside, but not really that far aside, Hanif's poetry is both violent and original.
